Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)

Labour Market Impact Assessment is one type of document that is required for foreign employers who will come to Canada to perform work. It has also been established that no Canadian worker or permanent resident is available for that position, implying that the position must be filled.

Needs: For applying for a work permit worker needs a contract, a valid job offer, a copy of the LMIA with the number.

Labour Market Impact Assessment serves as documentation that a Canadian citizen or permanent resident is qualified or permitted to recruit a worker. Employers must advertise at least 4 weeks ago before the interview. The employer must apply for Canadian work permit before being able to work in Canada. LMIA applicants are required to have lots of valid documentation.

A two-step procedure is required to obtain a work permit in Canada.

Lmia Validity And Duration

After completing the LMIA issued foreign workers have six month to use it for a work permit. There will be no extension. If the six month period is over and 5he foreign worker still has not submitted a work permit a new or fresh LMIA application is required.

Before applying for LMIA, employers need to determine that it is necessary to hire a foreign worker and temporary work is needed.

The LMIA application is active for six months from the date of publication after it has been validated.

Internal Mobility programs allow you to hire a temporary worker without labour market impact assessment. Most of the time you will provide an offer of employment through an employment portal.
